The centralisation of the means of production is one of the key features of a communist system of government. it gives the state control of all productive assets, and hence it can employ people and distribute goods as it sees fit. Question 2. (c) Mime Well done, that's correct. While mime is horrible, neither side found a practical way of employing it to destroy it's enemy. Which is probably just as well, because mime really is horrible. Question 3. (b) 1953 Well done, that's correct. Joseph Stalin died in 1953. Question 4. (b) He had a red birthmark on his forehead Well done, that's correct. While Boris had his vodka, and Bill had his saxophone, Gorbachev's real distinguishing feature was his big red birthmark, shaped not disimilarly to South America, which seemed to get redder as he got more animated. Question 5. (c) The Cuban Missile Crisis Well done, that's correct. In October of 1962, the USSR moved nuclear missiles into Cuba, bringing most of mainland America within striking range. The two governments successfully come to an agreement, and the USSR withdrew its missiles, but the proximity to all-out nuclear war is frightening for both sides, and the world at large. Question 6. (a) Mikhail Gorbachev Well done, that's correct. Mikhail Gorbachev announced the end of The Cold War in December of 1988, though the communist Soviet Union is not disbanded until 1991. Question 7. (a) North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Well done, that's correct. NATO was established in 1949, its members originally including the USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Iceland, Portugal and Canada. |
