Rationale
Connection to syllabus
In Part III of the HSC Modern History course, International Studies in Peace and Conflict, students have the option of studying The Cold War. This is a fascinating period, spanning nearly fifty years from 1945 to 1991, and has inspired countless film and literary interpretations.
As indicated by the syllabus, students learn about key features (including the various weapons used by both sides), concepts (including capitalism and communism, discussed in themes), and the events that provide a framework within which to examine these features and concepts (see A Cold War timeline).
Site features
This site also includes provision for self-assessment testing, with the majority of questions drawn from information available entirely in these pages. Provision is also made for students to evaluate the effectiveness of the site (the feedback section), so that improvements may be made.
The design of the site was drawn initially from a simple template, which was then built upon and duplicated for each page. The site was intended to be both visually appealing and stylish, while maintaining ease of use and functionality.
Summary
While it is recognised that this site is somewhat limited in scope, and by no means attempts to cover the entirety of Option B - The Cold War, it should nonetheless provide and interesting resource for students seeking an overview of the major issues involved in the conflict, as well as some more detailed analysis in some areas.
Please use the feedback section for any comments or inquiries.
