How was The Cold War fought?

While The Cold War wasn't fought on traditional terms, both sides used an amazing array of weapons and tactics to try to get the upper hand. They included:

Propaganda The superpowers used the media, books and films to criticise the other side and to tell the world the benefits of their way of life.
The arms race Each superpower built up as many weapons as it could and placed missiles and bases in friendly countries to establish its presence.
The space race Superpowers competed to have the best satellites and rockets and to be the first in space.
Prestige Superpowers tried to outdo each other in sport, cultural events and standards of living.
Economic aid Superpowers gave monay and resources to gain the friendship of poor countries.
Threats Superpowers criticised each other to put the other side down.
Military aid Superpowers helped rebels overthrow governments.
Espionage Spies and secret agents tried to find out each others secrets.
Treaties Superpowers signed agreements and treaties with friendly countries and formed alliances to spread their influence over the world.
